TOPIC:  Walk…

Posted: 10/5/2010, 4:27 p.m. EDTDoggie

Mom took me for a walk earlier today.  I am generally well behaved unless I see another dog, cat, squirrel or chipmunk.  The vet said it was good for my little doggie legs to make a few laps around the neighborhood.  Next time I'm thinking of taking my skateboard.

TOPIC:  Leaves…

I saw a few leaves fall off our oak tree today.  I barked at them.  I also barked at the acorns in our driveway.  Dad has to clean those up before the squirrels mount an invasion.

A marine biologist developed a race of genetically engineered dolphins that could live forever if they were fed a steady diet of seagulls. Dolphin

One day his supply of the birds ran out, so he had to go out and trap some more.  On the way back, he spied two lions asleep on the road. Afraid to wake them, he gingerly stepped over them.

Immediately, he was arrested and charged with transporting gulls across sedate lions for immortal porpoises.

Fun Facts To Know And Yell

It's Fire Prevention Week October 3-9 ...

Smoke alarms

  • Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in half.

  • In more than half of the reported home fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate even though the fire was large enough, batteries were missing or disconnected. Nuisance alarms were the leading reason for disconnected alarms.

  • Most homes still have smoke alarms powered by battery only.  In a 2007 American Housing Survey (AHS), 67% of the respondents who reported having smoke alarms said they were powered by battery only.

  • In a 2008 telephone survey, only 12% knew that smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.

  • In fires considered large enough to activate a smoke alarm, hard-wired alarms operated 91% of the time; battery-powered smoke alarms operated 75% of the time.

  • Interconnected smoke alarms on all floors increase safety.
