Pennies are pretty useless. Some folks have
even tried to get rid of them altogether but they still manage to hold
on. Dad told me that he used to wear penny loafers back in the
day, but even then, he said, he put nickels in the coin slots instead of
pennies. Sounds like some sort of social economic issue.
Anyway, the penny is very disrespected. People make jewelry out of
them, squash them on railroad tracks, and even substitute them for fuses
in fuse panels (do humans still have those?). Even old Abe Lincoln
is facing the wrong way on his coin. The only thing I can figure
is that his other profile must have been lousy. Please feel free
to take a penny on your way out if you need one.
